Rwandan citizen need a visa for a journey to Germany. The required visa and the formalities depend on the length of your stay and the purpose of your visit. Here are some information you might need for applying for a visa. Please always recheck the information before your journey and do not wait until the last moment to apply for the visa.

Short stay visa for the Schengen Area

This Visa allows you to travel within the Schengen-Zone (26 countries in Europe, including Germany). Rwandan citizens apply for the visa at the Belgium embassy, non-Rwandans at the German embassy.

• For max. 90 days
• Fees: 80 EUR (RWF depends on exchange rate, ca. 84.000 RWF)
• 40 EUR for children aged 6-12 years (42.000 RWF)
• No fee for school pupils, students, postgraduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake stays for the purpose of study or educational training.

Apply 6 months to at least 15 days before your journey (the earlier the better)

Please note that the applicant is required to submit their application personally at the application centre in Kigali. Your fingerprints will be taken. In the case of minor, parent or guardian must accompany them on the day of submission.

Long term visa:

Apply as soon as you plan to travel to Germany for more than 90 days. The process can take several months, because the visa has to be agreed by the immigration office in Germany.

Fees:  75 EUR (RWF depends on exchange rate) - The fee has to be paid in cash and in RWF!
