Current Situation in Eastern Congo

Current Situation in Eastern Congo

Statement by the Partnership Association on the Situation in Eastern Congo/Goma

As a non-profit organization, the Rhineland-Palatinate/Rwanda Partnership Association (e.V.) is committed to fostering civil society exchange between both regions and is deeply aware of the long-standing significance of this partnership.

We note with concern the recent violent outbreaks in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo near Rwanda’s border. However, our association pursues no political agenda, focusing instead on promoting grassroots societal exchange and cooperation between the people of Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda. For over 40 years, we have cultivated this partnership with the goal of strengthening sustainable relationships based on mutual respect and equal cooperation.

Our association represents a broad spectrum of civil society perspectives. Within our network, there are critical voices regarding the current situation in eastern Congo and our partner country Rwanda’s role. Despite differing opinions, we agree that supporting local initiatives based on our value framework remains essential. We continue our work, hoping for a swift resolution ensuring long-term stability and security for people throughout the region.

In this context, we refer to the UN Security Council Resolution of February 21, 2025, calling on all parties to immediately return to unconditional diplomatic talks for a lasting peaceful solution.

Signed: Executive Board
