Awarding of the Dag-Hammarskjöld Medal of Honor 2025

On November 14, 2025, the German Society for the United Nations (DGVN) will award Karin Landgren and Martin Kobler the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal of Honor for their outstanding services to the United Nations.

We cordially invite you to the ceremony for the presentation of the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal of Honor in Mainz.

PROGRAM

Admission from 5:30 p.m., start at 6:00 p.m.

– Welcome address by the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate
– Laudatory speech by Boris Mijatović, Chairman of the Subcommittee on International Order, United Nations, and International Organizations in the German Bundestag
– Medal award ceremony and acceptance speeches
– Discussion “UN80 – Challenges for the period after 2025” with the award winners and Prof. Dr. Manuel Fröhlich, DGVN Presidium. Moderator: Inger-Luise Heilmann
Reception with musical accompaniment from 7:30 p.m.

Karin Landgren from Sweden was Executive Director of the independent think tank Security Council Report in New York from 2018 to 2024. She looks back on many years of commitment to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and was Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UN peacekeeping missions in Nepal, Burundi, and Liberia.

After a successful diplomatic career, Martin Kobler was most recently German Ambassador to Pakistan. From 2015 to 2017, he was UN Special Envoy to Libya, prior to which he headed the UN missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Iraq and was Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Afghanistan.
