Review of the General Assembly

On May 27, 2025, the ordinary general assembly of the Partnership Rhineland-Palatinate/Rwanda e.V. took place at the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament in Mainz.
Since its founding in 1983, the association has promoted partnership cooperation between Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda. Projects in the areas of education, health, and municipal cooperation are particularly supported. A special focus is on civil society engagement – especially through school partnerships and personal encounters on equal footing.
During this year’s general assembly, reports were given on the past year’s engagement as well as an outlook on upcoming projects, such as forthcoming events and the expansion of public relations work.
In her greeting to the members of the partnership association, State Secretary Heike Raab emphasized the importance of the cooperation: “I heartily congratulate the newly elected board and thank the previous board for their outstanding commitment. The grassroots partnership between Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda is a vibrant and active cooperation across borders. The partnership association has significantly contributed for over 40 years to ensuring that this partnership is carried and lived by so many people in both countries with great commitment.”
Another agenda item was the presentation of the engagement of the German Association for the United Nations (DGVN), which was presented with regard to a future cooperation with the association for founding a state branch. Additionally, the regular board election was on the agenda. The board is elected every two years from among the association members.
The newly elected board is composed as follows:
- Norbert Neuser was confirmed in office as First Chairman.
- Anke Beilstein and Peter Klöckner were also re-elected in their functions as deputy chairpersons.
- As board members, Norbert de Wolf, Fabian Ehmann MdL, Dr. Annette Ehrgott, Carsten Frigger, Marlene Schneider, and Michael Wäschenbach MdL were re-elected to the board.
- The association welcomes Roger Lewentz MdL and Konrad Schuler as new board members, also as board members.
Following the assembly, a social gathering in the foyer offered an opportunity for personal exchange in a relaxed atmosphere.
Norbert Neuser and Managing Director Layla Engeln draw a positive conclusion from the general assembly and emphasized the importance of civil society engagement in Rhineland-Palatinate for the partnership: “Precisely this form of cooperation is an essential component of partnership grassroots work – and should continue to be strengthened in the future.” The association looks back on a successful past and looks forward to continued diverse cooperation that effectively connects civil society engagement and municipal political initiatives in Rhineland-Palatinate and the partner country Rwanda.
In conclusion, we would like to cordially invite you to Rwanda Day on June 28 from 1 to 6 PM in Traben-Trarbach.
