Rwanda Network promotes exchange in higher education

The press release from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate translated into English here:
“Since 1982, Rwanda and Rhineland-Palatinate have been linked by a unique grassroots partnership that promotes direct cooperation and encounters between the people of both countries. In this way, we are working together to create opportunities and open up prospects for a strong grassroots partnership,” said Minister President Alexander Schweitzer. This also includes exchanges in the field of education and higher education, within the framework of which the network meeting of universities and colleges from Rhineland-Palatinate took place at the State Chancellery on November 10, 2025.
“Science thrives on collaborative thinking and research. This is precisely why university cooperation with Rwanda creates a valuable space for innovation in the field of sustainable development and for modern educational pathways that are accessible to all,” said State Secretary Heike Raab, Plenipotentiary for Federal and European Affairs and Media, at the third Rwanda Network Meeting of Rhineland-Palatinate universities and colleges. This scientific cooperation goes beyond “traditional development aid.” There are currently partnerships between 12 universities and colleges in Rhineland-Palatinate. Departments such as ethnology, geography, architecture, biotechnology, and economics are involved. The collaborations include joint research projects, student and teacher exchanges, and the development of joint degree programs. For example, Minister President Alexander Schweitzer already welcomed Rwandan students this year who completed an internship at pharmaceutical companies in Rhineland-Palatinate as part of their “BioMex” biotechnology studies. Numerous professors, speakers, managing directors, and project staff are participating in this year’s Rwanda network meeting and are involved in the partnership between Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda.
“Joint research projects, student exchanges, and continuing education programs build bridges between young people and between ideas that shape this partnership. I would like to express my sincere thanks to you today for your commitment, your expertise, and your willingness to constantly explore new avenues,” said State Secretary Heike Raab.
