Election of the new Chairman: Norbert Neuser
Last Tuesday, August 31, 2021, this year’s general assembly took place at the State Museum Mainz. In addition to the 14 agenda items, the new board chairman was also elected: Norbert Neuser. This ended Dr. Richard Auernheimer’s term of office after 12 years.
Taking over the chairmanship is a great honor for Neuser, as he emphasized in his subsequent speech. He has long been connected to development cooperation, particularly intensively since 2009, when he became a member of the European Parliament. He is now also on the corresponding committee. Rwanda has been an important topic for him since 1982. Neuser shares the conviction that cooperation between North and South, between the richer and poorer countries, is important and good. He wants to bring his experience, which he has gathered over the years, to the association and always maintain the focus on combating poverty and social inequality.
After several meetings with Dr. Richard Auernheimer, he became aware that the footsteps left by his predecessor are very large and he would like to gladly take on this exciting task. In this way, Neuser thanked the former chairman and emphasized that he would like to continue using Auernheimer’s network. He has always been a team player and this quality should not be neglected during his term of office.
But not only the board chairman was newly elected, there are also new faces on the board itself: Annette Ehrgott and Peter Klöckner.
