Latest Updates on the Ebola Situation in East Africa (As of May 19, 2026)

Since May 15, 2026, cases of Ebola have been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and an outbreak of the disease has been reported in Uganda.
The epicenter of the outbreak is in Ituri Province in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which borders directly on Uganda. As of now, there are no reported cases in Rwanda and no indications that the virus has spread there.
We are closely monitoring developments and recommend that travelers planning trips to Rwanda follow the latest travel and health advisories and check for updates regularly before departure.
The Federal Foreign Office currently advises against travel to the entire Democratic Republic of the Congo and urges particular caution when traveling to Uganda. There are currently no specific travel or safety advisories related to Ebola for travel to Rwanda.
As the situation can change rapidly, we ask that you regularly check the latest advisories from the Federal Foreign Office and the World Health Organization before traveling to Rwanda.
